Do anyone know that why google is trying to crawl images?

Since when Google released panda in February 2011 and first penguin updates on April 24, 2012, the SEO industry was divided into two parts SEO’s and Expert SEO’s. Some thought that SEO is dead and some kept a close eye on Google’s next strategies, what they are planning and how it will affect the SEO world. I am new in SEO industry, once I was just surfing on internet and searching for some information on SEO and I came across an article about Google trying to crawl images. I love the passion of this field. The more you learn the eagerness to learn more increases.

A question came in my mind "Why Google is trying to crawl images?"

Than I thought that Google might be planning to release a new algorithm which will hit the SEO Industry very strongly because most of the websites have images downloaded from the internet and it’s a possibility that the same images are used by many different websites. Once Google succeeds in crawling and checking images the way it checks the contents than the ranking of the websites which had used duplicate images knowingly or unknowingly will be affected badly. One of the techniques in which using images by posting in many of the photo uploading websites and getting a link will also die or will not work. The same way in which Google ended the concept of meta keyword text as said by Matt Cutt’s, a Google programmer, explained in an video message that was posted on YouTube that Google ignores the meta tags Keyword due to misuse of keywords on websites.

Just thinking is there any possibility that this can happen in future? Leave your valuable comments.
